| In 1962, the United States Navy began preliminary work on VAX (Heavier-than-air, Attack, Experimental), a replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk with greater range and payload. A particular emphasis was placed on accurate delivery of weapons to reduce the cost per target. The requirements were finalized in 1963 and in 1964, the Navy announced the VAL (Heavier-than-air, Attack, Light) competition. Contrary to USAF philosophy, which was to employ only supersonic fighter bombers such as the F-105 Thunderchief and F-100 Super Sabre, the Navy felt that a subsonic design could carry the most payload the farthest distance. read more... ![]() ![]() Patrol Boat, River (sometimes Riverine and Pibber), or PBR, is the US Navy designation for a type of rigid-hulled patrol boat used in the Vietnam War from March 1966 until the end of 1971. They were deployed in a force that grew to 250, the most common craft in the River Patrol Force, Task Force 116, and were used to stop and search traffic in areas such as the Mekong Delta, the Rung Sat Special Zone, the Saigon River and in I Corps, in the area assigned to Task Force Clearwater, in an attempt to disrupt weapons shipments. As promised ... ![]() My clanmate Jackson has finished his first map and it's really awesome. It's called 'Depot' and you can see some preview screenshots in BF1942/missions. All I had to do is adding vegetation, lighting and shadows and COOP support. Really well done for his first time. There are 3 more maps from Jackson to be revised but it's not a lot to do. So release will be soon. |

| The work on 0.81 is coming to an end and relase will be soon. We'll have some bugfixes, gameplay improvements, 2-3 overworked and 3-4 brandnew maps. Screenshots of the new maps are allready uploaded to BF1942/Missions section: Jungle Camp My Hoi and My Son Right now I'm waiting for a friend who has been offline for two weeks now. During his offline-time he wanted to create an own map too. So we'll see if it will be added to 0.81 ![]() |

Here's another preview of the german mapping factory ![]() The map (W.I.P. !) is called -My Son- and shows a fictitious remake of the really existing temple ruins of My Son in Vietnam. The quantity of vegetation causes some lag atm but I hope this will be fixed soon. Also there are some screenshots of a fictitious My Hoi map (during war in vietnam formerly known as My Lai) in our forums. read more... EoD 0.81 will be a small patch with new maps and small fixes.
